Happy Birthday to Robert Edward Lee!

I might have missed the toast for JRR Tolkien but I am sure going to toast ol' Robby tonight.

and the drink is going to be straight Orange Juice

If I toast him, it will probably be with Koolaid or water.

Does anybody know when Stonewall Jackson's birthday is?

Hey, Jesse--

Jackson's birthday is tomorrow--the 21st of January. He was born in 1824. Do you remember what else happened that year?

end of lesson.

Robert E. Lee is an embarrassment to the south, just like the rest of the Confederacy. You guys REALLY need to stop celebrating that part of history, it's sickening to me. You have no idea what the Civil War did to this country, do you? You think you do, but truly you have NO idea. The blacks in this country are still suffering and still paying for it, they’ve never really fully recovered, America never fully recovered. And don't give me the crap about state's rights; sure it was state's rights. State's rights to own slaves! I think you need to go back to your history book and take another look, and after you do that, take a look inside your conscience, and inside your heart, and see if you really believe what you’ve been told to believe about the Civil War. I can’t understand how people like you can go around celebrating the Confederacy, parading Confederate Flags on the backs of cars and in front of houses; you'll never know the pain that flag and what it represents has caused so many people, including me. I can see the ignorance and the intolerance and the hatred and the stupidity that the Confederate flag really represents. And you guys go around waving it with pride!?! I'm a southerner, but above all I am a human being and a child of God. Stop being such hypocrites, you read the Bible, so you should know that it says “So we, being many, are one body in Christ; and every one members one of another" (Romans 12:5) I'm your cousin, but I just can't stand it when you guys go on and on about the Confederacy. When will you be able to see the other side of the Confederacy, the side that encouraged slavery and racism and goes against the basic human rights that the Constitution grants all people? Or is it that you have seen it, and you choose to celebrate it as well? I REALLY hope that's not the case, I hope its pure ignorance. If you were looking for someone to toast to, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday was a few days ago, He's a hero, a TRUE man of God!

Hey, Claire!

Do you know what Lysander Spooner, an abolitionist from Massachusetts, had to say about Mr. Lincoln's war? Have you ever read what Lord Acton of England wrote to General Lee? Do you know what Robert E. Lee instructed the Confederate Army to do at the end of the war? or what he asked for for his men and never received himself?

There is more to history than you've been told in school, but you have to dig it out for yourself. Anybody who's handing you history is really handing you their take on history. So go back to original sources and uncover the truth for yourself. You'll be amazed at what you find.

Ditch the textbooks and get your hands on the things that were written before, during and right after the war. Why depend on somebody else to chew your food for you?

It would seem that there is another Claire out there!
How lovely of ol' Bob to do all that he did. He was indeed a pearl among generals.
